Meta Raises Prices of Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S Headsets Due to Global Memory Crisis
Meta has announced a price increase for its virtual reality headsets, a decision linked to the significant rise in costs of electronic components, particularly RAM memory. Starting from April 19, the Meta Quest 3S and Meta Quest 3 models will see a significant price hike, reflecting a trend affecting the entire technology sector.
Specifically, the price of the 128 GB Meta Quest 3S will rise to €359, while the 256 GB version will reach €469. The more advanced model, Meta Quest 3, will see its price increase to about €619. The increases will also apply to refurbished units, while accessories will remain unchanged.
According to the company's statement, this decision has become necessary due to the global increase in production costs for high-performance hardware. In particular, the rise in memory chip prices has had a direct impact on numerous electronic devices, including VR headsets. Meta emphasized that the goal remains to ensure a high level of quality on both hardware and software fronts, without compromising the user experience.
Not only Meta with the Quest 3 and 3S: many companies are raising prices for their devices The situation is not limited to Meta. Other large companies in the technology sector, such as Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony, have recently adopted similar strategies, raising prices for their devices in response to rising costs of raw materials and components.
This scenario highlights how the availability and cost of essential resources, such as RAM, are becoming decisive factors for the entire consumer electronics market. VR headsets, which require high performance to ensure immersive experiences, are particularly sensitive to these price fluctuations.
Despite the increases, Meta continues to focus on the spread of virtual reality, investing in the development of the Quest platform and trying to maintain a balance between technological innovation and economic sustainability. However, for consumers, this could translate into a higher cost of access to the VR world.
