Metro 2039 Could Be the New Chapter of the Saga: Announcement Expected at Possible Microsoft Event on April 16

The next chapter of the famous post-apocalyptic saga Metro may be closer than we think. According to various rumors that have surfaced in recent hours, the new title developed by 4A Games would be called Metro 2039 and could be officially announced as early as April 16, 2026.

The rumors come from well-known insiders in the industry, including NateTheHate and Jez Corden from Windows Central, who have indicated this date as a likely moment for the reveal. According to shared information, Microsoft is preparing a showcase on the same day, which could represent the ideal platform to present the game to the public. It is still unclear whether it will be an ID@Xbox event or a presentation with different branding, but anticipation among fans is already very high.

The Microsoft show will broadcast on April 16th & is the venue of choice for the Metro 2039 reveal. I don't know the branding of the show. Before anyone asks: No, I have not been able to confirm the previously rumored State of Play date information yet.

The title Metro 2039 also suggests a possible temporal positioning in the series timeline. The events of Metro Exodus, the last main chapter published in 2019, take place in 2035 and cover about a year of story. This would mean that the new game could be set about three years later, paving the way for a new narrative phase for the characters and the universe created by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

While waiting for confirmations regarding Metro 2039, no concrete details about gameplay or plot have been released yet. The last official update dates back some time when 4A Games stated that the next chapter would have a story "even darker" than the previous ones, an element that has contributed to raising expectations, considering the already dark and mature tone of the series.

In addition to the new main chapter, the studio is reportedly also working on a multiplayer project set in the same universe. However, there have been no updated news about this title for over five years, making its current status uncertain.

Meanwhile, other rumors concerning parallel events, such as a possible State of Play around the same period, have not found solid confirmations. This makes it difficult to outline the announcement schedule accurately, even though April 16 seems to be a key date.
