Never mind the downsizing: OnePlus is also working on a handheld console

OnePlus continues to debunk the speculation about downsizing with actions. After launching several new smartphones recently, such as the Nord 6, the company is looking to the future and is reportedly working on a handheld console based on the Android operating system, quite different from handheld Windows devices (like the Rog Ally X shown in the cover image).

The model in question is currently the subject of new rumors, with a render previewing its design and highlighting the grip, emphasized by the choice of an exclusive color for the casing (purple in this case, but there may be other variations).

At the moment, information about the project is very limited. The device is expected to have an 8-inch display, with overall dimensions that will be slightly larger than a high-end smartphone, approaching those of handhelds with a Windows operating system. Unfortunately, the render does not show the front side, but it is expected that there will be no joysticks, as the product aims to offer a combination of physical triggers and touch controls. At the base of the project, there should be a high-end MediaTek Dimensity SoC.

OnePlus will probably opt for one of the new 3nm solutions capable of providing significant power, such as the 9500. For now, there is no further information regarding the other specifications of the device.

The debut of the new handheld console is expected in the coming months, with the launch possibly occurring only in select markets. China seems to be the reference market for a project of this kind, although we cannot exclude commercialization in other countries. Arrival in Europe seems unlikely.
