Valve Brings Steam Link to Vision Pro, Enabling Streaming Gaming in Mixed Reality

Valve has announced the arrival of the Steam Link app on Apple Vision Pro, marking an important step in the integration between traditional gaming and mixed reality. This innovation allows users to play titles from their Steam library directly from the headset, taking advantage of local network streaming.

The app allows streaming games from a nearby computer, whether it's a Windows PC, Linux, or a Mac, transforming the Vision Pro into a sort of virtual big screen. It is important to note that, at least for now, the support is exclusively for "traditional" games, meaning those designed for 2D screens, and not for virtual reality titles.

Despite this limitation, the experience promises to be immersive thanks to the headset's capabilities. Steam Link supports streaming up to 4K resolution and offers the possibility of dynamically adjusting the curvature of the screen in panoramic mode, creating a more engaging gaming environment.

Steam Link Comes to Apple Vision Pro: Further Details on Development and Availability

Before this official solution, it was already possible to use third-party applications to achieve a similar result, but often with less reliable performance or more complex configurations. The arrival of the official app greatly simplifies the process, offering a more stable and accessible experience.

Interested users can try the app via TestFlight, Apple's platform dedicated to the distribution of beta versions of applications. This indicates that the project is still in development but advanced enough to be tested by the public.

The introduction of Steam Link on Vision Pro also represents a sign of Apple’s ecosystem openness, which had initially been criticized for its closed nature towards external content and devices. In recent years, support for third-party experiences has improved, even if not always with the same immediacy offered by competing platforms. Looking ahead, this integration could pave the way for future developments, such as support for virtual reality games.
