Sony Launches The Playerbase to Introduce Players into PlayStation Video Games Through Real Scans
Sony has announced a decidedly original initiative called The Playerbase, designed to bring players directly into PlayStation video games. The idea is to use scanning technologies to reproduce the real likenesses of users and insert them into the game's catalog.
The project is still in its initial phase, but Sony has already launched a first concrete initiative related to Gran Turismo 7. In this case, a selected fan will be able to see their face included in the game as a character portrait. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to customize certain elements, such as the logo and the exterior design of a car. The winner will also receive a trip to Los Angeles to participate in a full-body scan. However, it is still unclear how this three-dimensional model will be used within the game, considering that Gran Turismo 7 is a racing title and does not feature many moving characters.
How to Participate in the PlayStation The Playerbase Program?
To participate in the program, users will have to undergo a rather elaborate selection process. Besides the initial application, there will also be video interviews and other assessment steps. The initiative is open to participants from various regions of the world, including Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
The idea of inserting real people into video games is not entirely new, but Sony seems to want to push this concept towards a more accessible approach for the public. For many players, the ability to appear in a video game represents a unique and immersive experience.
However, the project also raises some concerns. On one hand, there is curiosity about how this technology will be used in the future and in which games it will actually be integrated. On the other hand, doubts arise regarding the availability of new first-party titles, which could limit the opportunities for expansion of the program. Thus, The Playerbase represents an interesting experiment in the field of interaction between players and video games.
