Reolink Solar Floodlight: the new 2K camera that charges with one hour of sunlight
Reolink has officially announced the launch of the new Solar Floodlight, a home security solution aimed at completely eliminating the need for complex wiring or frequent manual recharges. The device, available on the market at a price of €99.99 (currently on sale for €84.99 on Amazon), presents itself as a hybrid system that combines the functionality of a high-resolution surveillance camera with the illuminating power of a traditional outdoor spotlight.
The optics are paired with a sensor capable of recording video streams in 2K (4MP), providing an optimal level of detail for identifying faces or license plates within a particularly wide field of vision, equating to 150 degrees. This breadth allows for the coverage of large areas such as gardens, driveways, or main entrances from a single installation point, reducing the blind spots typical of narrower optics.
Reolink Solar Floodlight: 2K and 1000 lumens without relying on the power grid
The Solar Floodlight adopts the proprietary SolarEase Enhanced Solar Technology, which optimizes the performance of the integrated solar panel, bringing the charging efficiency to 26% (a 20% increase compared to previous models). According to technical data provided by the manufacturer, just one hour of exposure to direct sunlight is enough to meet the energy needs for an entire day's operation.
The system is designed to operate even in critical scenarios, such as areas partially shaded by trees or on days with low brightness, generating power even with a light intensity of 2,000 lux. The 7,800 mAh internal battery acts as an energy reservoir, allowing the device to maintain full operation for up to three months even in the complete absence of sunlight, based on an average of standard uses and movement-activated tasks.
In terms of deterrence and alarm management, Reolink has implemented artificial intelligence algorithms, processed directly on the device without the need for cloud support. The system can autonomously distinguish between people, vehicles, and animals. This capability allows for dynamic management of the two 1000 lumen spotlights: the light intensity can be maximized to scare off a potential intruder or lowered if the sensor simply detects the passage of wildlife or pets, avoiding unnecessary disturbances.
In emergency situations, there is an integrated 110 dB siren, manually activatable or via automation rules. Communication is two-way thanks to the built-in microphone and speaker, manageable in real time through the official app. The device is clearly not designed as an isolated element: full compatibility with the Reolink Home Hub and the brand's NVR systems is planned, allowing for the integration of the Solar Floodlight into an existing centralized surveillance infrastructure.
