Mistral AI Raises $830 Million for an NVIDIA GPU-Based Data Center Near Paris

The French startup Mistral AI continues its infrastructure expansion strategy with a debt funding of $830 million aimed at the establishment of a new data center near Paris. The facility will be equipped with thousands of NVIDIA GPUs and represents a key piece in building a European AI supply chain.

Founded in 2023, Mistral is among the few European entities engaged in developing foundational models, competing with U.S. players such as OpenAI and Anthropic, albeit with significantly fewer resources. For this reason, the company has progressively shifted its focus to infrastructure, seen as a critical element for supporting the training and deployment of models.

The new data center will be located in Bruyères-le-Châtel, a site selected in 2025, and is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2026 according to the reported timeline. The structure will be powered by approximately 13,800 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs, with an overall capacity of 44 MW, intended for both model training and inference services.

The financial operation has been supported by a consortium of seven international banks, including Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, La Banque Postale, MUFG, and Natixis CIB, confirming the growing interest in developing AI infrastructure in Europe.

At the same time, Mistral has already initiated a broader plan that includes significant investments in other European countries. Among these is a project in Sweden, announced in previous months, which contributes to the overall goal of reaching 200 MW of computational capacity by 2027.

According to CEO Arthur Mensch, the expansion of infrastructure is vital to ensure technological autonomy for the continent: the growing demand from governments, companies, and research institutions drives the need for customized solutions as alternatives to the large international cloud providers. To date, Mistral has raised over 2.8 billion euros.
