KeeneticOS Updates to Version 5: Remote Management for ISPs and New Monitoring Tools

Keenetic has updated the operating system on all its devices. Routers that stand out from the competition for their advanced functionalities, ideal for ISPs, but also easy to use in environments such as professional offices or small businesses, as well as in domestic settings. Among the main new features, there is the ability for granular access management, allowing the delegation of various router tasks to third parties, new monitoring tools, and the option to enable zero-touch provisioning to facilitate the installation and remote management of the router, which is particularly useful for ISPs.

KeeneticOS 5: All the News for Businesses and Professionals

Keenetic launched its activities in Italy in 2024 and aims to become one of the main players in the market, targeting a local market share of 15% in a few years. The company's focus is primarily on more advanced and demanding users, starting with ISPs, but the devices are also suitable for small businesses and professionals looking for a high-end, ultra-secure router equipped with advanced functionalities while being easy to use.

The company has recently made available a new version of its operating system, KeeneticOS 5, which introduces a series of important innovations aimed at solving some of the main issues users face with this type of product. Today, many professionals and small businesses experience network management as an operational limitation: installations that require on-site technicians, high travel costs, lack of granular control over access and complex interfaces that discourage any quick diagnosis. For ISPs and IT managers, this translates into inefficiencies and reduced margins due to the continuous physical assistance needed to resolve even the simplest problems.

With the new version of its operating system, Keenetic aims to increase user satisfaction significantly by improving performance in various areas.

Granular Security with the Manager Role and Simplified Installations

One of the main limitations encountered by many users is related to security: there is often a need to grant some users certain privileges, such as Wi-Fi management, without allowing them to change other key parameters. The Manager Role functionality allows for this, enabling the assignment of roles with limited privileges without giving them the keys to the entire system.

Another recurring requirement is to simplify the installation and initial configuration process as much as possible, making it accessible to everyone, even those with limited technical skills. Here, Keenetic has solved the problem by introducing Zero-touch provisioning, a feature enhanced by Quick WAN. With this, devices can be configured automatically, without any input from the end user, independently detecting the correct WAN. This capability is ideal for ISPs, who can simply send the router to their customers, who will only need to connect it to the power supply and WAN. Everything else will happen automatically within a few minutes.

Another feature designed for ISPs wanting to focus on remote assistance is the new TR-069 CWMP Agent, a functionality that enables remote diagnosis, configuration, and operating system updates without needing physical access to the router. This is ideal not only for Internet service providers but also for businesses that will no longer have to send technicians to every branch to resolve problems or update devices.

KeeneticOS 5 also introduces a new graphical interface, accompanied by new tools, also designed primarily for ISPs. Among the new features in this regard are DNS routing, a WireGuard-based VPN server, full support for IPv6, and a series of onboard diagnostic tools.

Support for eSIMs and Traffic Filtering

Although reliable, Internet connections occasionally fail. It could be the provider's fault or a neighborhood hub, and in these cases, there is no way to connect until the problem is resolved. For this reason, Keenetic also supports mobile connections, but unlike other manufacturers, there is no need for a USB adapter or SIM slot: Keenetic OS 5 introduces support for eSIMs, which can be managed directly from the device interface.

Turning to family functionalities, application filtering has been introduced, which allows for integrating a series of rules to restrict access to specific websites or applications. In this way, parents with minor children can block access to certain sites simply with a few taps on the application, ensuring that the kids cannot access age-inappropriate content. Specifically, the operating system provides a preconfigured and constantly updated list of main applications and online platforms, organized into thematic categories. This allows for the rapid selection of apps to limit without needing to identify specific online services manually. Moreover, thanks to categories, restrictions can also be applied to platforms that are not yet known but fall within the same area.

The same functionality in the business sector is useful to prevent certain users or groups of users from accessing applications or services (such as social networks) that are not considered conducive to the company's activity and productivity.
