Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene: Cleans and Washes Without Vacuuming
Dyson's Clean+Wash Hygiene is a unique product, a floor washer that can collect debris and dust present in the home but does not have suction capabilities. Its operating principle is based on a roller, moistened with water to wash floors while simultaneously being able to collect dirt thanks to the densely woven bristles that make it up.
With this type of design, lacking a suction motor, Dyson bypasses potential issues with loss of suction power and the presence of allergenic filters that can clog and generate unpleasant odors. The air is simply not used in the cleaning action; instead, dirt is collected by the bristles of the roller and directed into a dedicated collection tank integrated into the base.
The design chosen by Dyson for this product thus significantly differs from most competitor models, which offer floor washers that include both a floor washing roller and an integrated suction system that channels debris into the dirty water tank. The dirty water collected during cleaning is directed into a specific tank: it is easily emptied by operating a side cap, similar to a bottle. Any solid dirt particles are collected and deposited in a special red container integrated into the tank, which must be emptied separately. This type of design is less convenient in practice than that of floor washers that vacuum air and collect dirt directly along with the dirty water: it actually requires a specific additional action to remove solid dirt from the container, in addition to emptying the dirty water tank.
In Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene, the roller is connected to a comb that separates any hair and fur collected during cleaning, preventing them from tangling. The roller is constantly wet from the integrated nozzles, which draw liquid from the tank mounted on the body of the floor washer. Dyson also recommends using a cleaning liquid to add to the clear water tank for a more effective cleaning action. The charging base features a hot air drying system for the roller, capable of restoring it to optimal functionality after each cleaning session. When repositioned in the base, an autocleaning operation can be initiated, lasting just over 2 minutes, after which the roller is dried by the hot air stream for about 30 minutes.
At the end of the autocleaning action, the roller is subjected to hot air while continuing to rotate: the operation is very effective but generates quite a bit of noise, which can be bothersome. It is possible to stop the rotation while keeping the hot air drying active, but in this case, the system is still audible, albeit with lower noise. The roller extends to the right edge, allowing it to work close to walls and furniture to obtain a more precise floor cleaning. The dense meshes not only clean the surface but also help collect solid dirt, fur, and hair, channeling them separately into the collection tank from the washing water. It can easily be removed from the base for periodic maintenance, washing it and removing any debris that may have become stuck.
The handle of Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene integrates a small display, which provides indications on the different operating modes through some animations. The blue button activates the maximum water usage mode, while the lower button controls turning it on and off. The gray button located under the screen allows you to select from 3 humidity levels for the roller, based on the type of dirt present on the floor.
Once activated, Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene makes a cleaning pass on the floor, leaving a slight layer of humidity as is typical for products in this category, humidity that tends to dry by itself in a short time. Selecting one of the lower intensities makes the roller’s action sufficient to help remove any spilled liquids from the floor, performing a sort of partial drying.
The final result is precise washing, with more intense stains being removed by passing the roller over the area multiple times and selecting the necessary amount of water. The removal of dust and debris, captured by the roller, completes the maintenance action on the floors: in this case, we also recorded good overall effectiveness, despite the lack of an air suction system.
The maneuverability on floors of Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene is very good: the jointed head allows the base to move over the surface even in very tight corners. It is possible to lower the upper body to lay it flat on the floor, allowing intervention under furniture with adequate space.
The battery operating autonomy is adequate: there are no issues in cleaning an entire apartment with a single charge, and the limit is rather the amount of water in the reservoir that will need to be replenished.
Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene is offered at a retail price of €499 but is available on the company’s website, as well as in various physical and online channels, at a promotional price of €449. This is a competitive price compared to competitors, from whom it differs by the solid dirt collection system that does not rely on a vacuum cleaner but on the combined action of the washing roller. From the My Dyson app, users have access to extensive documentation related to the operation and maintenance of the product, but it is not possible to modify any operational options.
